Always listen

My attempt to try and reproduce Jamaica Kincaid's "Girl" (1983)

Yes, that dress does make you look fat; the only person you have to impress is yourself; always have fun, even if it means getting in trouble; don't get into too much trouble; don't look at a large person for too long; don't stare at all; if the choice is your life or another's, choose both; go up to the biggest person in New York City and yell "TAG!! YOUR IT"; don't yell fire in a movie theatre; when someone is nice, be nice back; if someone is not nice, still be nice; when faced with a huge challenge, find the help of others; if no one is left to help you, find the willpower to be better; if you want something that you don't need, you are most likely going to get it; if you need something that you want, you most likely will not get it; random is the best perfection; beauty has flaws; flaws only show the beauty; always try your best; love all, hate none; try to keep everyone and everything you know alive; always find the upper edge, unless it means hurting someone; if you kill someone, you will die on the inside; don't stare at the sun; stare at the moon; save all, waste none; when faced with money or friendship, pick friendship... or money, it's your call; go everywhere you can; don't yell bomb anywhere, unless there is a bomb; don't argue with the police, they win every time; even if you are wrong, continue arguing, you get your point across well; you are always telling the truth if you believe you are; you are being truthful, right?

Whiparound

Make it happen and let it happen, if the future is in the past, because every story has its own ending and beginnning and succession of endings and beginnings. If winning is not so important, why is score kept. Because if you judge a book by its cover, or fight one another, you will never have dreams. You will never know until you lose it, like water in a well. We have all been doomed. I must now follow.

The King of the Digital World's suicide note to the executioner about his death (Work of Fiction)

(This entire note is faked, do NOT take this seriously. It is a work of pure fiction. Any relation to real life events or persons is purely coincidental.)
February 30th, 1900 and 108 years
Dear Mr. Executioner,

First, I must apologize for not letting you, the executioner, kill me. I understand that you are a fine person and it is your job to kill people, but I could not handle it letting you know that someone else would kill me. I know that it is your job, not mine, to be carried out. I must admit I had only a 200 year life, but I feel better knowing that you did not have to hack me apart into little, bite size pieces. I feel that it is better that my body is in one piece as it is buried. So instead of you killing me, I decided to kill myself. I feel it is better this way.
I know that some people may think that I, the almighty and powerful ex-King of the Digital World, am being stupid and stubborn. I know that all of my many fans will think I am doing this for them, but really I am doing this for MYSELF. Yes, it is true, I am the most spoiled king in the world, and am indeed a stuck up jerk.
I feel that in this time of economic downturn, I have hurt many people. And, I don't regret that. I may have shared many insider secrets and killed a few people to get my way, but that is how I did business. I could be compared to the many drug lords of the world. (But please don't compare me to them. They are high, and I am not!) I know that many people will miss me, but really, I won't miss them. For your services (that you could not complete), I have included a 2,000 dollar bill and a check for 30,000. I hope you use it well
Sincerely yours,
Former K.D.W (Former King of the Digital World)
P.S. This digital letter contains an unknown (albeit fake) virus.
P.P.S. You, the executioner, have been digitally executed

Les Positifs et Les Négatifs Du "txting"

Hello, my fellow Americans (and all of those currently around the world). I am currently writing in Webdings. If you can't understand this then you must change the font!!!
My topic today is about texting and its effects on the English Language. I feel that many people are not affected by the advancement of texting and its many uses. Although they think that their grammar may have changed because of this, but by my estimations (which really aren't that good, but nevertheless...) more people still call people instead of texting. So in that case, words don't need to be spelled out, just spoken. Although I do text, I always use correct grammar and always spell words out. It may not be that way for some people, but hey, that is just the way I am. It may be because I have predictive on but that makes no difference.
Then again, the bad sides and the good sides must be weighed with equal measure, for is that not what America was founded upon? But anyway, some people, such as my teacher, He Who Must Not Be Named, do not have texting, that is their own decision, but I can realize their points. They say that most people don't talk as much as they used to. Also that they change their writing style because of texting.
I personally think that most people don't have any effects of texting on their life because it really is a very small part of their life. Although some people may show some symptoms, such as saying "lol" or "gtg" or "brb". Though most people are not effected in this way. But I don't feel this way nor do most of my friends.
Thanks,

Cal Ripken Jr. Interview

The Only Way I Know

Cal Ripken, Jr.

1. Mr. Ripken, just a little background, where did you grow up?

I grew up in Aberdeen, Maryland. A little town outside of Baltimore. I went to Aberdeen High School. I moved around a lot because my father was a Minor League manager so we moved where he moved.

2. How did you feel with your father as a manager?

It wasn’t like having your father as a Little League coach, it is as if your friends father was your coach. I didn’t address him as “Dad”, I mainly called him “Senior” or simply #43.

3. How did you feel when he was fired?

Again, it was a change. I was kind of surprised. He was fired only 6 games into the season. There were rumors that he would fired during the offseason.

4. Overall did you enjoy your playing time in the MLB?

Absolutely. It was very exciting. I had so much fun. Baseball was my life and still is.

5. How did it feel to play for the Orioles your entire career?

It was an experience. It would be interesting if I had not played just for the Orioles.

6. In 1983 when the Orioles won the World Series, what did that feel like?

It was amazing. We felt like we were on top of the world! Afterwords we went on a post-season tour of Japan. That was also very exciting.

7. How did it feel to have your consecutive innings played record stopped at 8,243 innings?

I was upset in a way but I knew it had to be done. I believe it served as a distraction to the team.

8. How did you feel when you broke the record for consecutive games played?

It was amazing. I thought “Wow! I played more games than Lou Gehrig. In total I played over 2,632 games consecutively. 3,001 for the Orioles in total.

9. How did you stay in peak performance your whole life?

I had a rigorous routine of going to the ballpark early and training longer than most of my teammates.

10. Would you ever consider coming out of retirement?

Maybe! (insert laugh) I think I am getting a bit old though.

Baseball 2009

Any Predictions on the 2009 playoffs for the MLB?
